While sitting here getting my coupons together and my lists for shopping at Tops Markets this Sunday I thought about how maybe sharing step by step how I do my lists may help others. So I’m going to run through what I personally do to prepare for the Dollar Doublers event at Tops Markets.
Search the Weekly Ad and Coupon Matchups
First and foremost I’m looking through the ad. Whether it’s right in front of me (I always prefer this way) or online with the ad scan. I go through and circle the items I know I want to buy or check out. Then I check the coupon matchups or a coupon database to be sure to get all the coupons there are for the items I am looking into getting.
Gathering Coupons
After figuring out where the insert coupons are that I want and printing the coupons I need I start to cut them out. So much fun, I know! I then sort my coupons into groups of like coupons and then into categories. Sometimes it’s in depth and others it’s just by grocery and non grocery. That tends to win more times. I then put the coupons I’m not using into my coupon binder using these nice coupons sleeves that are bigger then those baseball cards many used to use to the binder method of organizing coupons.
Filler and Freebies List
For dollar doublers you want to have items that are going to be cheap or even free after coupons. This is going to help you reach the $20 minimum spend in order to use those 4 little dollar doublers in each order. This helps to get your totals way down. I like to gather these ones up first as I tend to have more of them anyway. I personally gather mine into like coupons then use index cards to separate each coupon set. I put the most popular ones in front. That way I have the ones I know I want to use first ready for me.
Dollar Coupons to Match Doublers
So in order to use the dollar doublers you need to pair each one with a $1.00 in value coupon. That can be $1.00 off 1 or $1.00 off 3 and so on. But it must be a $1.00 value manufacturers coupon. I do the same things as I did for the freebie coupons. I gather mine into like coupons then use index cards to separate each coupon set. I put the most popular ones in front. That way I have the ones I know I want to use first ready for me.
Making Your Dollar Doubler Grocery List
I then print out my handy free printable I created for Dollar Doubler week. I then go back through the coupons and I add them to my list starting with my must haves first. I add the name of the product, the value of coupon, the amount of coupons I have, the sale price if I know it, and the amount I will be paying for each item.
I split my list in half and use the top half for my freebies list and the bottom half for my doublers list just so that they are separated a little.
Organizing Your Coupons
I like to put mine in ziploc bags, usually they are bigger then these ones allowing for them to fit all the way in, but these were what I had. Or you could use envelopes. The reasons I separate my coupons up like this and not make them into separate hauls with exact items needed and coupons is because over the years I have come to realize there are more couponers and sometimes I won’t be able to do my exact order I planned for a doubler haul. So I have deal ideas, but I go in knowing I may or may not be able to have that exact order depending on the stock at the store. This way I can pull the coupons out as I am shopping and put them in a spot so I can have them ready at checkout.
